What is the Survey of Utah Adoptive Parents?
The process of adopting a young child can be a time of great stress and great joy. We are inviting Utah parents who recently adopted a young child to complete a short survey about the sources of stress and support during the adoption process. Your personal experiences are important to us. Sharing your experiences will help us improve the adoption experience for future families.
What do we hope to accomplish with this survey?
Although Utah has the one of the highest rates of adoption in the country, there are no scientific data about the experiences of Utah adoptive parents that can be used to guide adoption-related policies, regulations, and services. The Survey of Utah Adoptive Parents is seeking to help change this. By participating in our survey, you will provide crucial scientific data that can help make the adoption process easier for future Utah adoptive families.
Who can participate?
Utah parents who domestically adopted a child under the age of 18 months after January 1, 2019 are invited to complete the survey. Families who completed an adoption in another state but currently live in Utah are invited to complete the survey. We welcome families who adopted through an adoption agency, an independent lawyer, or foster care.
What if you do not live in Utah?
If the adoption took place in Utah but you currently do not live in Utah, we still welcome you to complete the survey.
What if the adoption is not finalized yet?
We still welcome you to complete the survey if your child’s placement date was after January 1, 2019 and your child was under 18 months at the time of placement.
What if you adopted internationally?
Parents who internationally adopted a child of any age after January 1, 2019 are invited to complete this version of the survey.
How much time will it require?
Will you be compensated?
Yes! Each parent will receive a $20 Amazon gift card.
Can spouses complete the survey?
Yes! We encourage both adoptive parents (if applicable) to complete the survey. We only ask that each person independently complete the survey rather than working together to jointly answer the questions. If both parents complete the survey, both will receive the compensation.
Can you participate if you adopted more than one child after January 1, 2019?
Please complete the survey multiple times, once for each child.
Will your responses be kept confidential?
Keeping your information private is important to us. To prevent unauthorized access to your information, all data will be stored electronically on a secure server sponsored by the University of Utah. Your information will not be used for marketing purposes.
What about birth parents?
